$25 million Alternative Elder Care Facility Announced

Boyke and Stirpe at press conferenceOn January 27, 2010 Supervisor Judy Boyke held a press conference to announce the selection by Loretto to build a new $25 million facility on the old Cicero Commons campus, now New Dimensions, in the Town of Cicero. This facility will be built according to the Green House Project model for elder health care, a radical departure from the institutionalized care typically provided to seniors in traditional nursing homes. Thirteen buildings accommodating 10 to 12 residents in each house will be built on 18 acres. Pioneer Companies, the developer, has just submitted the construction application to the Town of Cicero. Construction will be started in September, 2010, and the project will be completed in the Fall of 2011. The as-yet, unnamed facility will be staffed by 120 employees. Watch the press confernce. This year things are a little bit different. We are getting new voting machines!  No more lever machines, we are moving to these computerized “Beasts” that people have been whispering and complaining about for the last couple of years.

February 25, 2010—I am happy to inform you that starting on Monday, March 1, Town Assessor Brad Brennan will be available in the Assessor's office every afternoon Monday through Friday. Previously he would split his work week between Salina and the Town of Cicero 2-1/2 days at a time. In order to serve you, the taxpayer, more effectively it was determined that a half day schedule would allow more access to the Assessor.

Vote in our latest poll!

Federal and State laws against nepotism prevent any employee from hiring, supervising or having any role in decisions to promote, discipline or discharge an employee who is a relative. Allowing one relative to supervise another can create animosity and resentment among co-workers and call into question a supervisor's objectivity when dispensing work assignments, performance evaluations, etc. Read Deborah Gardner's letter to the editor concerning nepotism.
