Town Board Advertises for
Full-Time Assessor
The former administration also created a new position of Real Property Appraisal Aide at the current salary of $36,225 plus benefits and filled the position. Some have questioned the need for this position since the town had just reduced the assessor from full-time to part-time and contracted with an organization to reappraise every property in Cicero. Though the print media reported that the town board terminated the assessor, the board, in fact, voted only to advertise for a full-time assessor. Vote in our poll. |

Joan Kesel |
In a letter to the editor dated August 11, 2010 Joan Kesel wrote: I wish to publicly commend The Cicero Planning Board and specifically Chairman Mark Marzullo for their professionalism and dedication to planning board applicants and town residents. I have noticed a distinct change in the atmosphere at their meetings. Prior to Mark’s leadership, many of the planning board members quietly listened and rarely offered comments or asked questions. Now, because of Mark’s leadership skills, the entire board participates in the process and as individuals they each assume an active roll in the important decisions making processes for the town. I also would like to publicly thank Jason Mott and Bill Purdy who recently submitted their resignations due to personal conflicts with the time commitment needed to serve productively. Both of these individuals demonstrated a sincere commitment under the leadership of Mark. They will certainly be missed. We, as residents of Cicero, owe this improvement of services to the wise decisions made by our town supervisor, Judy Boyke. Judy chose to avoid political cronyism and the “pay-back” of political favors to create exactly the type of unbiased planning board Cicero deserves.

The Cicero Town Board voted 3 to 2 at the July 25, 2010 town board meeting to advertise for a full-time assessor. The current assessor, Brad Brennan, was appointed in March 2009 as assessor to be shared with the Town of Salina. Though he remains an employee of Salina, Cicero pays half of his $91,000 yearly salary and half of his benefits, which are in excess of $37,000 a year. In addition, he enjoys five weeks of paid vacation each year. He works for Cicero 3-1/2 hours each day. The entire agreement between the Town of Cicero and the Town of Salina can be found
